نتحدث أحيانا عن أن فلانا عنده عقدة نقص أو مركب نقص فما هي قصة هذه العقدة؟
عقدة النقص هي شعور شخص ما أنه أقل شأنا من الآخرين بطريقة أو بأخرى وهذا الشعور يمكن أن ينشأ من دونية تخيلية أو دونية فعلية وغالبا يعيش هذا الشعور في اللا وعي ويقود صاحبه إلى التعويض المبالغ فيه بردة فعل عنيفة تؤدي إلى إنجاز رائع أو سلوك متطرف أو كليهما وعلى عكس الدونية العادية والتي قد تكون حافزا فإن عقدة النقص تعتبر حالة متقدمة من الإحباط ترسخ نفسها في أسلوب حياة الشخص المصاب
An inferiority complex is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extreme behavior, or both. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement (or promote discouragement), an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often embedding itself into ones's lifestyle, and sometimes resulting in a retreat
from difficulties.

عقدة نابليون هو مصطلح عامّي وليس علمي يستخدم للتعبير عن عقدة نقص مزعومة تصيب بعض الناس خصوصا الرجال قصيري القامة وقد يستخدم بشكل أعم لوصف أناس لديهم عقدة نقص بسبب إعاقة ما مما يؤدي بهم إلى رد فعل مبالغ فيه في أوجه أخرى من حياتهم

وقد سميت عقدة نابليون بهذا الإسم نسبة إلى الإمبراطور الفرنسي نابليون بونابرت حيث قيل أنه أراد تعويض شعوره بقصر قامته في السلطة والحروب والغزو هذا على الرغم من أنه لم يكن قصير القامة بشكل علمي صحيح فقد كان طوله 168 سنتيمترا وهو ما كان يعد طبيعيا في ذلك الوقت إلا أن طول القامة الفارع للحرس الإمبراطوري ولد عنده الشعور بقصر القامة !!!
The Napoleon complex is named after French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The conventional wisdom is that Napoleon overcompensated for his short height by seeking power, war and conquest. However, Napoleon was actually of average height for his time period and misconceptions may have been due to an incorrect conversion of his height. Napoleon was 1.68m / 5 feet 6 inches tall. Napoleon was often seen with his Imperial Guard, which contributed to the perception of him being short because the Imperial Guards were above average height.
